Anthropic said the export controls were lifted on June 30, 2026, and access to Fable 5 was restored globally starting July 1, 2026 on Claude Platform, Claude.ai, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork.
The biggest change was the addition of an improved safety classifier. Anthropic said the new classifier was designed to block the specific technique described in a report about bypassing Fable 5’s safeguards. If a request is blocked, it can be redirected to Claude Opus 4.8 instead.
